Hotel Rwanda
09.06.05 (4:10 am)   [edit]

I don't know how many times I've watched this movie in the last two weeks, but it was very moving every single time. It brought most of us(who watched it) close to tears. To put it simply, it was amazing!

The movie is based on the true story during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. It's about a Hutu hotel manager who uses his hotel as a place to hide his family(his wife was Tutsi) and Tutsi refugees from the Hutu militia. He saved over a 1000 people. They all managed to escape to different countries after the UN got exit visas for all of them. Don Cheadle gave an exceptional performance and should have won the Oscar for best actor(IMO). It was an emotional film, and it's hard to believe that such an atrocity could have happened in this day and age.

However, if we look today, these sort of massacres are probably being carried out somwhere around this world. We just can't see it. No one wanted to see it back then, no one wanted to help...so it's probably the same now. My best friend's mom told me(after she saw the movie), that it related so much to what was going on in Sri Lanka..between the LTTE rebels and the civilians. Ofcourse it isn't genocide, but it's just as bad. But does the rest of the world know or care about it? no.

Anyways, I don't like to rant on and on about this issue. But I definitely recommend this movie to anyone. It'll give us a history lesson and also possibly teach us on humanity.

last week of holidays
09.03.05 (1:23 am)   [edit]
so I finished work last saturday(27th). I wanted atleast one week of "rest" before I headed back to school. This last week has been fun..no worries, no stress! :) on the saturday that I finished work, my best friend came over to spend a couple of days with me in st.kitts. we ended up having a cooking fest in my kitchen! n we also watched 2 movies: hotel rwanda and brothers grimm(i'll b posting reviews of them soon). So on monday, we decided to head back to my workplace(marineland) and spend the afternoon there. So off we go, with a uni pal of mine who's been dying to go. we checked out pretty much everything at the park, minus the rollarcoaster n sky screamer, coz we were all too chicken!! :D that same nite, we headed to our parent's house in hamilton. spent the nite there, having a good laugh with my uncle n aunt who were also there. n on tuesday, we were off to scarborough to spend a few days with our best friend. we ended up staying for 3 days, watching tons of movies(hindi n english), staking out at an apartment for a *meanie* and going out. we met up with some old school mates n went bowling with them. had fun. :) altho' i was last!! :( n then we went off to restaurant and a park with some friends of our best friend. eventful, that's for sure. hehe. so had an eventful week..i only wish i had taken a longer 'vacation'. :) ne ways, all good things must come to an end. This thursday will be my first day of school..my 3rd year!! not really looking forward to it, altho i'm quite excited about working on my thesis! :) so that's it. i'll post my movie reviews later.
