I don't know how many times I've watched this movie in the last two weeks, but it was very moving every single time. It brought most of us(who watched it) close to tears. To put it simply, it was amazing!
The movie is based on the true story during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. It's about a Hutu hotel manager who uses his hotel as a place to hide his family(his wife was Tutsi) and Tutsi refugees from the Hutu militia. He saved over a 1000 people. They all managed to escape to different countries after the UN got exit visas for all of them. Don Cheadle gave an exceptional performance and should have won the Oscar for best actor(IMO). It was an emotional film, and it's hard to believe that such an atrocity could have happened in this day and age.
However, if we look today, these sort of massacres are probably being carried out somwhere around this world. We just can't see it. No one wanted to see it back then, no one wanted to help...so it's probably the same now. My best friend's mom told me(after she saw the movie), that it related so much to what was going on in Sri Lanka..between the LTTE rebels and the civilians. Ofcourse it isn't genocide, but it's just as bad. But does the rest of the world know or care about it? no.
Anyways, I don't like to rant on and on about this issue. But I definitely recommend this movie to anyone. It'll give us a history lesson and also possibly teach us on humanity.
